馬總統13日召集國家安全高層會議，指示行政院將成立食品安全辦公室，並呼籲全民抵制頂新團產品。行政院長江宜樺14日表示：已指示法務部監控，防止頂新魏家脫產。

經濟部長杜紫軍表示，頂新集團向8家銀行貸款200億元，魏家4兄弟也向銀行聯貸200億元，不過在頂新食安風暴爆發後，頂新併購中嘉的聯貸案已經停止腳步。

對於魏家恐退出味全與台灣之星的經營權，江宜樺在立院院會接受質詢時表示，政府沒有辦法干涉民間公司的經營，但是已經交代法務部監控頂新魏家，以防止頂新脫產。江揆強調，101具有重要象徵意義，更不會讓頂新取得101的官股股份，101的兩家民間銀行股東也跟政府站在同樣立場。

國民黨籍立委林德福表示，頂新食安風暴的受害者不只有民眾，還有頂新的員工與投資者。他還說，健保會虧損就是民眾黑心食品吃太多，應該凍結頂新的財產，賠償全民健保的損失。
